Diversity Statement
As a Christian liberal arts institution, York University is committed to treating every person with love and dignity as people created and loved by God. We believe that all people, without exception, are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27; 9:6). We believe God intentionally designed male and female, and that both sexes are beautiful reflections of His creativity at our birth.
Guided by our commitment to follow Christ, we strive to fulfill the Great Commission to build God’s kingdom comprised of every people, language, nation, and tribe. (Matthew 28:19-20; Revelation 7:9-10). We believe diversity is key to fulfilling the Greatest Commandments to love God and others (Matthew 22:37-40). We strive to create a grace-filled, Christ-centered academic community where every member is treated with love, respect, dignity, and value to the glory of God.
We support a diversity of race, ethnicity, culture, sex, socioeconomic status, class, age, ability, and other differences as we submit to the Lordship of Christ. We are committed to following the example of Jesus as he showed compassion to diverse groups of people as a key expression of the kingdom of God on earth (Matthew 8:5-13; 9:35-38; Mark 5:1-20; 7:24-30; 10:13-16; Luke 7:10-17; 7:36-50; 10:38-42; John 4:5-30). York University’s commitment to diversity will always be viewed through the Bible, which guides our understanding of individuals/groups we celebrate as a campus community.
