What were your initial thoughts when you came to York? How would you describe the person you were when you first came to York?

I thought the campus was so pretty when I first got here. The community is very tight-knit and I loved that about YU. I would meet people who already knew me and I hadn’t even met them yet.

When I first came to York, I was a very social, bubbly person because I was transferring in and was one of the new kids. I wanted to make new friends, so I knew I needed to talk to everybody. I did that and now I’m friends with almost every team on campus. You get to support each other and show up to each other's games and events. It’s so fun!

What is your favorite spot to be on campus and why?

I love the swings! I sit on the swings when it’s warm, sometimes when it’s chilly and windy… It’s just so nice because that’s my version of touching grass. Sometimes you just need to reconnect with the world, and that’s the place that I find best to do that!

What were you involved in during your time at YU?

I was on our women’s volleyball team. I’m the vice president of my social club, Theta Psi, and I’m the vice president of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America). I’ve been involved with FBLA ever since I transferred in last year. I competed in computer science production. We create a whole database that has to meet certain requirements by gathering/sorting information and providing data based on that information. I placed sixth nationally last year! This year I’m going for first!

What were the biggest takeaways that you got from YU?

One key takeaway from York is the focus on my relationship with God and being able to express and share that relationship with other people. Also, I know that I can go out there and explore the world and be successful because I’ve already accomplished that here.

What have you discovered is your purpose and mission after your time at York? And how did you realize what those were to you?

I realized that I’m a person that people are not afraid to approach, which is crazy to think about because I’m kind of tall. I’ve learned to use that approachability as an opportunity to guide others. Being a resource for them to help them through college and into life. Along with that, I want to start my own company after I get my master's to help educate people who may not know much about technology or cybersecurity. To help them learn how to protect their companies from cyber attacks.

What are your plans after you graduate?

I want to get my master’s. Hopefully, I can study abroad and be in a different country for that. If that doesn’t work out, I’ll get a job and earn my master’s online.

You could have received your degree anywhere. Why would you endorse York to a potential student?

It’s such a great place to meet people who are from different backgrounds than you. I’m friends with people from Spain, England, one of my best friends is from Australia, and my other two are from Nebraska. York’s just a great way to meet other people and to learn from different cultures. The professors here are also very engaged in your life. I have professors that I had in the first semester and haven’t had a class with them since but they still reach out to me. They are always asking about the things that I’m doing. They still care about you and want to know what you’re up to even if you don’t have a class with them.

If you could talk to the version of yourself visiting campus for the first time, what would you say?

I would tell myself to make sure that you have winter clothes. I would also say to walk as many places as you can, which I do because everything is pretty close. But walk as much as you can because you never know who you’ll run into and meet. You’ll make a lot of friends just walking around campus. Don’t be afraid to talk to people whenever you’re in the cafeteria or training room; that’s also how I made a lot of my friends. I would also 100% recommend being a Genesis leader. That was one of the best experiences of my life. I still say hi to everyone who was in my Genesis group. I might also warn myself about the squirrels here. They let you get really close, they’re like little dogs! They’re not scared of us at all.

What is the legacy that you hope to leave behind here at YU?

I want people to remember me as a bubbly person. Somebody who was a friend to everybody.
