With more than 100 voices blending together, Choir Reunion III was marked by hugs, shared memories, laughter and lots of singing. For a large majority of the participants, it was also a moment to honor their college conductor, Dr. Clark Roush, and his legacy at York University.
Dr. Jerry Jerabeck ‘88 and Joseph Meador ‘91 each gave devotional thoughts during the rehearsals, referencing their time on the risers under Roush, tour memories, and the bonds that unite a choir. Roger Deal ‘90 & ‘94 graciously provided a never-ending supply of snacks and water bottles throughout the weekend.
The weekend concluded with a performance in the Bartholomew Performing Arts Center that featured favorite hymns and the longstanding traditionals for the York music program: Lord, Make Me Thine Instrument and The Lord Bless You and Keep You.
Sonja (Kibby ‘90) Jacobson commented, “It's really difficult to put into words what this weekend's experience means to me. First, anytime I get to spend time with all of my children at the same time, it's a BLESSING! Add to that, singing with two of them and my hubby at a York University choir reunion, and I can tell you... I got a taste of HEAVEN!”
“This was such a fulfilling weekend!” exclaimed JD Dutch ‘89. “The work everyone put in for a day and a half to create such beautiful music was amazing! I was beyond honored to be a part of this choral reunion which also happened to be the final York University concert for Dr. Roush, a man I’m deeply proud to call my friend.”
Dr. Roush retired after 40 years with York University - read the story here. His successor as choral director is Dr. Lester R. Miller III (‘00).
