York University is pleased to announce the six incoming students joining the Distinguished Faith and Learning Scholars. Led by Professor Jeff Hill and Professor Emeritus Mike Case, the group is dedicated to developing students’ leadership skills, encouraging high standards of academic excellence and growing students’ faith.  

 

Participating students are recipients of the Dean’s Award (a $15,500 scholarship) and the President’s Award (a full-tuition scholarship). This year’s Dean’s Award recipients are Faith Reese, Madison Shaffer and Ryan Rifer, while the President’s Award will go to Colby Raulston, Caleb Crowley and Avery Hunter. 

 

“York University offers an environment of academic challenge from a faith-based perspective,” President Timothy Westbrook said. “This holistic approach to education is central to our mission. We are excited for these Distinguished Faith and Learning scholars to join us this fall as high impact additions to our campus.”

 

As part of their involvement in the Distinguished Faith and Learning program, these students will attend weekly meetings with Hill and Case, read assigned books on topics of leadership and faith, maintain high grades and be actively involved on campus. 

 

“I believe that York University will be a place where I can stretch my faith and expand my capacity to serve others. This scholarship will challenge and encourage me to grow and give me a community in which I can flourish,” Faith Reese said. 

 

When asked why he decided to come to York, Caleb Crowley said, “I chose York because of the people. Everyone is so convicted about their faith, and the scholarship means that I can be part of that community also.”

 

“York is a one-of-a-kind college that provides a Christian-based education,” Ryan Rifer said. “I’m grateful to have received this scholarship and am excited to attend York University.”
