On March 26, seven York University students were inducted into the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society in a ceremony at YU’s prayer chapel. Founded in 1992, this interdisciplinary academic honor society recognizes students in the top 10% of juniors and seniors at approximately 300 chapters across the nation.
New members inducted this year included Celia Agudo Rezusta (Madrid, Spain), Samantha Bayer (Logan Central, Australia), Maisie Briscoe (Chorley, England), Lilly Carr (Henderson, Neb.), Emory Flynt (York, Neb.), Lois Mattock (Halifax, England) and Jenna Smith (Elkhorn, Neb.).
These students join the current Alpha Chi members at York University, including Alvaro Ansede (La Coruña, Spain), Olivia Hansen (York, Neb.), Felicity Johnson (Henderson, Neb.), Allison Parker (Tyler, Texas), Eliza Rohda (Waverly, Neb.), Destiny Shepherd (York, Neb.), Mallory Tremaine (Rhinelander, Wis.), Andrew Van Gomple (York, Neb.) and Bethany Wright (Canberra, Australia).
Faculty sponsors Dr. Steven Hardy, John I. Baker III, James Butler-Gruett and Dr. Terence Kite lead the York University chapter. Hardy has been going to Alpha Chi induction ceremonies for about 25 years, and says they are “always one of the highlights of the school year” for him.
“It's great seeing these wonderful students receive recognition for their success in the classroom,” Hardy said. “I've not had all of our inductees as my own students, but the ones that I have had were incredible students--bright, hard-working, and conscientious.”
