As a part of the homecoming festivities, the YU Theatre Department will be presenting Leaving Iowa.
“What is super exciting is that we’re showing a comedy production this year,” said Joseph Hobbs, a senior from Ogallala, Nebraska. He added, “I’m excited for everyone to see just how amazing everyone is when we perform.”
The cast of this production includes Hobbs, Jason Dopps, Abby Brooks, Addison Harrold, Orren Limbrick, Clark Harrold, Arabella Robison, Cheyenne Kiely, Jubilee Matkins and Miley Pennington. Five of the cast members will be multi-rolling, which is when the same actor plays multiple roles within one show. The production is directed by John I. Baker III, Roush Endowed Chair for the Performing Arts and associate professor of communications and theatre at York University.
As a small teaser for the play, Baker said, “You remember those family vacations you went on? All the crazy things that happened? Sitting in the car and being bored. Mom and dad going to a place that you didn’t want to go. I mean, really, that’s the most boring place in the world. Remember those great memories? And how excited your dad was for a place that was really yuck, but you still put on that smile. That’s what the show is about— those memories.”
