Steven Hardy teaches both literature and composition courses. A generalist, he teaches
a wide variety of courses that meet degree requirements for both general education
students and English majors, and he especially enjoys teaching Shakespeare, poetry,
and technical writing. Dr. Hardy is the author of Some Mute Inglorious Kipling Here
May Dwell: Expatriate Writers in Treaty Port China and Hong Kong, published by Camphor
Press in 2022.
Away from the classroom, Dr. Hardy loves live theatre, and he was a volunteer for
several years with the Actors Guild of Parkersburg (West Virginia), where he was awarded
the Grace-Marie Merrill Award for exceptional volunteerism. This passion has also
caused him to lead several theatre tours to London (his favorite city in the world).
Other strong interests include genealogy, Oscar trivia, and travel.
Before coming to York, Dr. Hardy spent 22 years teaching at Ohio Valley University
in Vienna, West Virginia; he also taught English in both China and Hong Kong.
Two passages of scripture are especially meaningful for him: The Parable of the Good
Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) and Philippians 3:16: “Let us live up to what we have already
attained.”
Serving at York University since 2020.
