Caleb Rush, YU class of 2010 has been selected as the speaker for winter commencement at York University. Rush is well known in York, having been raised locally and graduating from York High School. After his time as a York Duke, he then attended York College and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Caleb and his wife Aubrey (Sanchez ’11) Rush married in 2010 and have two children, Mateo (2) and Rio (6 months.)

Rush said, “I am honored to come ‘home’ and be a small part of this exciting chapter in these young adults’ journeys. Having grown up on campus, I’ve seen and experienced first-hand the love and support of the York University community. My time on campus—as a little kid and all the way through my early adult years—has had a tremendous impact on who I am now, both professionally and personally. I’m excited to come home.”

During Rush’s time as a student he was a member of the men’s soccer program all four years and also part of the concert choir, now named University Singers. Rush was also an integral member of campus ministries, a program launched by his father, longtime campus minister, Mike Rush. Rush was an active member of Sigma Tau social club, a two-time NAIA conference male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was selected as an NAIA Champions of Character athlete.

After his graduation from York, he spent one year working as an admissions officer before he and his wife, Aubrey moved to China to do mission work while teaching English through the China Calls program. Upon return from China, he rejoined the admissions office as a recruiter before eventually moving to Montgomery, Alabama where Aubrey had been accepted to law school at Faulkner University. During that year, Aubrey convinced him to also pursue a career in law. During his time at Faulkner, Rush clerked for the Honorable Justice Tommy Bryan of the Supreme Court of Alabama, held positions as the editor-in-chief of the Faulkner Law Review, and was regional champion of the ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition. Both Caleb and Aubrey have found success in the legal arena. After completing law school in 2016, Aubrey began her career as an assistant district attorney outside of Montgomery, Ala. while Caleb finished his final year at Faulkner. The couple then moved to Dallas where she worked as an assistant district attorney for Dallas County before stepping away to enjoy this stage of life raising their two children.

Caleb has worked for several firms but has been with Spencer Fane LLP for the past five years and was recently named partner. Spencer Fane is a full-service law firm with more than 540 attorneys in 27 offices across 16 states. In Caleb’s current practice, he represents lenders and borrowers through the structuring, documentation, and negotiation of various commercial finance transactions.

Commencement will be held on December 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the Bartholomew Performing Arts Center on the York University campus.
