York University offers numerous performance opportunities for students interested
in theatre as a hobby or as a major. There are two mainstage productions each year, typically a comedy in the fall and
a drama in the spring. The spring semester also includes traveling children's theatre:
students travel to surrounding area elementary schools to perform free programs for
children twice a week.
In addition, there are regular student directed productions that give theatre majors
the opportunity to see the theatre process from the other side of the stage. If acting
isn't your thing, there are plenty of opportunities for behind-the-scenes work such
as running the tech booth, building sets, and managing props and costumes or assisting
performers with hair and makeup.

All students, no matter their degree of study, are welcome to pursue their passion on or off stage.

Traveling Children's Theatre
The traveling children's theatre visits libraries and surrounding elementary schools in the spring semester, typically 25+ shows.
Student-Directed One Acts
In the fall semester theatre students have the opportunity to direct a one-act play including choosing the play and hosting auditions, organizing the entire production.

Bartholomew Performing Arts Center
The majority of music and theatre performances are held in the Bartholomew Performing Arts Center, opened in 2016. BPAC is a teaching facility, focusing on the day-to-day needs of students in the music and theatre programs as well as providing a quality venue for productions and concerts. A multi-form (black box) theater, seating up to 350 patrons, is the centerpiece of the building. This 5,000 square-foot feature allows for various stage arrangements, extensive sets and improved seating and accessibility for patrons. Other features of the building include a dedicated rehearsal hall for the University Singers, a green room, costume room, and practice rooms for music majors.

Alpha Psi Omega National Theatre Honor Society is an American recognition fraternity for participants in collegiate theatre. Membership is open to students (primarily undergraduate) who are active in the theatre department.
